Access Arrangements for Cambridge International Exams

Individuals who wish to sit for Cambridge International examinations without being formally registered at a Cambridge-affiliated institution can apply as Private Candidates. This pathway provides flexibility for members of the public to pursue Cambridge qualifications independently. However, it is important to note that Cambridge does not permit Private Candidates to register for subjects that include coursework components.

At British International Distance College, we are committed to supporting Private Candidates who wish to write Cambridge International Examinations for IGCSE, AS Level, and A-Level qualifications. While we offer this service, it is at the discretion of the College to accept or decline any application for examination entry.

Please understand that our role is limited to facilitating the administrative aspects of registering for exams. Academic queries, guidance on grade improvement, or advice on subject selection must be directed to schools or educational institutions that specialise in these services.

Additional Services and Fees for Private Candidates

Private Candidates who require academic support can access supplementary services offered by the Distance College. These services are subject to additional fees and include academic consultations and tailored topic tutorials delivered via Zoom.

  • Academic Consultation/Advisory Service: For guidance on selecting the best examination options or addressing general academic queries, consultations are available at R420.00 per hour.
  • Topic Tutorials/Private Lessons: Subject-specific and topic-focused tutorials are available for R520.00 per hour. These sessions are customised to meet the needs of the student, and the topic must be specified in advance.

  • Access Arrangements Support: Private Candidates with specific needs, such as learning difficulties, disabilities, or medical conditions, can request assistance for access arrangements. This service includes preparing and submitting applications to Cambridge International, provided candidates submit current and relevant supporting documents (e.g., medical or psychological assessments) and are subject to additional fees. Please note: that access arrangements must be applied for each exam session, as approvals do not automatically carry over.

Private Candidacy provides a flexible route to achieving Cambridge qualifications, but it requires proactive engagement and self-motivation. For further details or to initiate the application process, please contact our office.
